Omnia HD delayed!?

It seems that the sim-free version of the phone will be delayed according to play.com. The phone was expected to release on May 25th and is now expected to be a month late. Now the delay was not confirmed by Samsung, who haven’t even given us a real release date. But maybe the this is just for the UK and that maybe the phone will come out sooner in Germany or Italy and you can probably get one from there if you have the chance ( a sim-free version). Now play.com is a site based in UK so maybe there will be different launch dates for different countries. Maybe it has something to do with Samsung having the Omnia HD exclusively on Orange. Whatever the cause of the delay, they are probably (hopefully) fixing the audio codec problem that many people have been complaining about while the device records in 720p. The sound was usually suppose to  recorded at 8 KHz which is simply bad for any device. The ARM codec is what to blame and my thoughts are that Samsung is fixing this issue.

I don\\'t know. But you can probably buy one form Europe (sim-free) and have them send it to you. If you are waiting for one to come on contract with a provider. Then I can\\'t give you a specific date.

THe phone is actually really beautiful but I prefer phones with a sim card.

  4. Tristan says:

Well the good thing about unlocked phones is that you can use it with any sim based carrier like t-mobile, AT&T. But the phone comes at a more expensive price

Any idea if and when Omnia HD will be released in the US ?

I don't know, it could be end of June, July or even after that. The strange thing is that the phone got approved by the FCC a long time ago meaning that they are allowed to sell it in the US. Maybe they will release it for Vorizon when the next Iphone comes out in July or maybe if we're lucky before. I will post when the phone will be available here. I'm planing to get the European model just because I can't wait to get it, and also I'm going to Europe for college.

Yes, Please post any news or developments. Have been watching for this phone for a while. I am quite puzzled as to why it has not been released to US market yet? Might even go unlocked route.
Alas, just waiting, hope current handset last that long.

I don't even know if I can use the 3g here in the US, it supports 2100mhz but there's a good article that I've read that even though it supports 2100mhz it won't work with T-Mobile here in the US…damn it! I wish Samsung would release a NAM version of this phone too!

  10. Dampbuffalo says:

The Omnia HD passed FCC so it is allowed to sell in the US. I think that it will release a little before the Iphone 3rd gen comes out to create some competition :)

  11. yhe2x says:

@Dampbufallo, are you saying that there will be a NAM version coming out?…if that is true then I wont waste another sec to buy this phone! but there’s no point for a US customer to buy this phone if you cant use the full capacity of it (e.g. 3g)

  12. Dampbuffalo says:

Well some people don\\'t really care about the 3G. Yeah it\\'s important in my opinion but some people just want the phone itself. I\\'m going to buy the Europe model only because I\\'m planning to go live in France for college next year.

  13. yhe2x says:

Of course 3G is very important especially for a person like me who can't live without an internet wherever I am and how am I able to enjoy it if the speed is slow as as a dial-up modem….I'm sure alot of US users will appreciate it if you can share some reviews on the i8910 HD when you get particularly the 3G

  14. Dampbuffalo says:

Yeah I\\'ll keep you all posted

do you know where can I buy the omnia hd in the internet which is safe. I can't wait its release in the philippines.

  16. Dampbuffalo says:

networkingrus.com is where I bought mine from and they are really good and ship fast. They ship to the Philippines

  17. phoenixsphinx23 says:

thanks I will try. Actually I am here now at Korea. Do they ship in Korea? Does the omnia hd will work on roaming here at Korea? I have a roaming phone here now which I use in the philippines and I want to replace it by omnia hd.

  18. phoenixsphinx23 says:

thanks, i will try. actually I am here now at Korea. Do they also ship in Korea? I brought my roaming phone here which I am using in the philippines and I plan to replace it with omnia hd. Does the omnia hd will work here in Korea?

  19. Dampbuffalo says:

You will be able to make phone calls but I'm not sure about 3G. There is a good chance that it might work though.

  20. Tim says:

any updates on a NAM version?

  21. Dampbuffalo says:

No, I don't think it will ever happen. But the funny thing is that depending on were you live in the US you might get full 3G service (using the 1900 band). I get full 3G on Long Island were I live and also New York City. I herd that Chicago and other major cities support 3G over the 1900 frequency. I bought the unlocked i8910 and the 3G speed is really fast, but I don't want you to buy one and not get any 3G in your area. The thing to do is call your provider (ATT or T-mobile) and ask then what 3G frequencies they are using in your area, they will try to contact the tower that is the nearest to your location and they give you an answer (normally
